Working at Encore has shown many of us that our rights as workers are not always respected. As we reflect on the events surrounding the Black Lives Matter protests, we are reminded that our colleagues of color experience suppression of their rights in both life and work, on a regular basis.
A well-known union expression is, “An injury to one, is an injury to all.” We stand in solidarity with all of our brothers and sisters of color in labor. We recognize that we need to stick together. We need to support, uplift and advocate for them in the ongoing fight for equality. Today, the role of unions is clear: provide the strength in numbers for a better future for all of us.
As members of IATSE Local 720, we will not only have a louder voice in the workplace, but in our cities. Local 720 works to promote positive legislation, supports community programs, and creates rewarding career opportunities. All of which help bridge the gap among working people within our communities.
